A few pictures:

An old silver mine under someone's front yard, found this while out looking for ... anyways, interesting.

A well encrusted lichen covered treefall...

And some of the hundreds of garnets I picked up from a nearby roadcut. The biggest is about a centimeter, the irregular shapes are the garnet still embedded in the schist. Buckets to be had, only need the time to pick them up off the ground...good training for my eyes. Now if only there was a way to monetize this...

The days grow shorter. There's lots to do, people to meet, coffee, wine, it's late when I finally get out of Calgary...
But it's worth it. No panning, merely surface collecting, assessing prospects, appreciating the harvest and colors of the season...

Stones becoming hoodoos. Small hoodoos, but you get the idea...

Thinking I'd found diamonds or gems, broken glass from the telegraph/telephone insulators. Old. Everywhere. Deep blue, light blue, clear, green...sunken into the sand....

And the Halloween bit, the rib cage of roadkill and a collapsed hoodoo....macabre, but there's an aesthetic there for sure...
Next week, up earlier, leave in the morning, no compromising the day, get it done...the days grow shorter, 7:00 PM and it was too dark to search, 8:00 PM and it was night, next week, up at 6:00, panning by 7:30, the whole day to move a few yards, see what results...
